I love what I do. I love working with technology and software and programming stuff and making things work. But the other night I was in a bookstore in Russian Hill and someone recently brought in a large collection of books by and about James Joyce. There was this lovely copy of “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man” which had six illustrations in it that I picked up and flipped through.
It was like meeting a good friend for the first time all over again. I seemed to have forgotten how wonderful Joyce is, how complex and insane he is and how his works force me to think in ways I never (and sometimes can’t) think.
And then I get that feeling like it’s time for something new. That the fountains, once again, have all dried up…
